Then we had to go to the lab for two rounds of blood work to be done (routine)- lead poisoning and CBC (tests her cell count). She is too tiny to have blood taken out of her arms, so they had to do a finger laceration. This was traumatic (for baby, Mama and Nana). They had to take three viles of blood by squeezing it out of her finger! To make it worse, she bled about 20 minutes afterwards, so they had to wrap gauze around her finger and squeeze. She was actually still bleeding when we left, but she had definitely reached breaking point. From the time we left the house in the morning to the time we got back- it was almost 3 hours! She went straight to sleep when we got home, and is still sleeping (Mike has checked on her). The nurse said that might happen.
So, should you have a one year check up for your baby approaching- be warned. I had no idea what we were in for!
Bella weighs 17.5 pounds. She is in the 5th percentile for weight and 50% for height (29 1/4 inches). Poor baby can not turn around in her car seat until she is 20 pounds or 14 months. She also still takes a paci to sleep, which the doctor said is best weaned by 15 months. So much responsiblity once the baby is one!
