Goodbye, Super Zayde

My grandfather, Nathan Herzig, passed away over the weekend. We all feel very blessed that he was able to see Bella this past summer and the summer before. She is able to identify her Bubbe and Super Zayde in pictures, as she can all her family members. Mike and I talked with Bella before we left and explained what happened and what would be going on. Mike talked with her about her fish that died last month, and how the same had happened to Super Zayde. It is really amazing how much she understood. She had a few questions first:
"Did Bubbe die too?"
No, you can still see Bubbe.
"Maybe tomorrow we can see him?"
No, not tomorrow honey. We can't see him anymore.

Although she obviously sensed the level of sadness, she was such a good girl and brought so much joy to everyone. I don't think it hurt that she had the undivided attention of everyone there.

Bella and Bubbe on Monday.

Joanna calls this picture "Which of these things doesn't belong?"
The 8 Herzig cousins and Bella.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, Shayna. Was it sudden? And was he a believer? I hope you enjoyed some special time with your extended family. Bella is getting so big!
